I started attending Cork Cancer Care Centre in 2017; so later when I was asked by C.E.O. Linda Goggin-James to be ambassador for “Just say Cancer” a group within C.C.C.C. that helps to highlight and support younger people with cancer I was over the moon! The Centre has always been my safe haven and where I felt most comfortable during my journey, ironic as when I was first diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at 23 I really didn’t want to go to any type of support centre.
My mam had been going into C.C.C.C. to help her deal with my diagnosis and she encouraged me to attend. All the staff and volunteers are so welcoming and the Centre itself feels homely just like your sitting room! If it wasn’t for the Centre I don’t know how I would have coped! The holistic therapies felt like magic to me and would help clear my head and focus on getting better! What I love about the Centre most is how it’s for EVERYONE! Age, gender or religion doesn’t matter!
The Centre will always hold a special place in my heart and will be something I will be connected to forever so I’m so honoured to have the privilege of being an ambassador and helping them highlight all the amazing work they do supporting people on their journey with cancer.
Cancer is such a scary word but in the Cork Cancer Care Centre they help to take the fear out of it and help to normalise it. This is something I’d love to be able to do for people who are affected by cancer! The first step walking through the door is the scariest, but once you’re in, it truly is a place you’ll never want to leave.
