Our “Walk With Warriors” event began as a very loose idea while the whole country was on lockdown during the first wave of the Coronavirus pandemic. When we had to close the centre and go to virtual appointments with clients in March 2020, and cancel all of our fundraising events from March through to August initially, we knew we would have to become creative in trying to raise money to keep the centre going for the future.
While brainstorming with our office staff, one of the girls came up with the idea that as well as raising money, maybe we could entice people to get out and around, while still practising social distancing, to help with their overall health and well-being. And so “Walk With Warriors” was born! The fundraiser ran from May 1st to the 31st.
We designed a virtual “race bib” to email to anyone who registered for the free event. People then started their own fundraising campaign on Facebook and Instagram and through the month of May, we were asking people to walk for 30 minutes each day(or do some form of exercise, whatever they were able for). We were truly blown away by the response and over €15,000.00 was raised by the participants.
